Taihe Hospital has many national and provincial scientific research institutions and bases, including one postdoctoral workstation of the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security (MOHRSS), one postdoctoral innovation practice base of Hubei Province, one national stem cell clinical research filing institution, one provincial key laboratory, two provincial clinical medical research centers of Hubei and two academician expert workstations. Taihe Hospital attaches great importance to the clinical application of scientific and technological innovation. By the end of 2020, Taihe Hospital has undertaken or fulfilled 33 National Natural Science Foundation projects, 7 special sub-projects planned by the Ministry of Science and Technology of PRC, and 4 major projects as well as innovation group projects of the Department of Science and Technology of Hubei Province. Besides, 259 scientific research achievements have passed the appraisal, and 162 have obtained provincial or municipal scientific and technological progress awards. These achievements and awards are leading the hospitals of the same level. What is more, Taihe Hospital has obtained 899 patents, and published over 1000 monographs as well as 11323 papers that are beyond the standard level qualified by the Ministry of Science and Technology of PRC. Among the published papers, 5078 are on the core journals and 1030 are on the Science Citation Indexed journals.

At present, the hospital focuses on the following key research directions, i.e., the prevention and treatment of malignant tumor recurrence, such as glioma, gastrointestinal tumor and female tumor; the prevention and treatment of chronic non communicable diseases, such as chronic obstructive pulmonary diseases, cardiovascular and brain diseases; the application of stem cells in the treatment of cerebral palsy in children; new technologies and strategies for diagnosis and treatment of infectious diseases, such as hepatitis B; rehabilitation and health preservation of the traditional Chinese medicine. Centered and; the basic research on the molecular mechanism of metabolism, immunity, regenerative medicine and aging regulation.

Taihe Hospital has successfully filed the second batch of the national stem cell clinical research institutions in 2017, and the pediatric "clinical study on the safety and effectiveness of human umbilical cord mesenchymal stem cells in the treatment of children with spastic cerebral palsy" in 2019. Based on these, Taihe Hospital becomes the 36th institution that has awarded the stem cell clinical research on both the institution- and project-level of China.
